Festival film plunges into the operating theatre

It’s time for a bit of horror as the 16th Canberra International Film Festival swings into its final week.

Katharine Isabelle in “American Mary”
Taking questions will be Canadian twin sisters Jen and Sylvia Soskia, here to launch “American Mary,” which screens tonight and on Saturday. They’ll be introducing the film and hold a Q&A after the screening tonight.

Already celebrated for their hit film “Dead Hooker in a Trunk,” the Soska Sisters have, in this film, turned their attention to the operating table.

Young medical student Mary (Katharine Isabelle) discovers a world where surgeons can make good money – so long as no questions are asked.

Meantime, the festival has a fabulous competition going in conjunction with Dendy Canberra.

If you buy a ticket to any film screening at the Festival, write a 140-character review of it and put it up on Twitter with the tag #CIFFmini you’ll be in for a chance all the regular screening of movies–free – for one year.

The winner of a Dendy Gold Card* (valued at $10,000) to the winner of its CIFFmini competiton will be the writer of the most creative and original review.

You can review as many films as you like, midnight on Sunday, November 11, but remember to keep your ticket, as proof you attended the screening.
