Deakin blaze causes $40k damage

A HOUSE fire in a Deakin home this afternoon has caused $40,000 damage.

Crews received triple-0 calls to the fire on Lamington Street about 1.30pm.

Firefighters were still on scene about 1.50pm, and had managed to control the flames.

Intensive care paramedics assessed one elderly female who did not require transport to hospital.

Firefighters say the occupant of the house was alerted to the fire from a smoke alarm.

No neighbouring properties have been damaged.
