Flickerfest: a feast of short films

"Brick Novax’s Diary"
FLICKERFEST is Australia’s only Academy accredited film festival, and it’s coming to Canberra.

Billed as “Bite Size Chunks of Great Cinema”, the international short film festival will screen a collection of the most innovative highlights handpicked from 2200 entries to entertain audiences across the country on a 37 venue national tour.

Flickerfest will kick off on Saturday March 24 with an opening night party and The Best of International Shorts, including the 2012 Academy Award nominee from Germany, “Raju”, which follows a couple’s journey to India to collect their adopted child, as well as the ING DIRECT Award Winner for Best Short Film 2012 “Ebony Society”, directed by Tammy Davies from New Zealand and the comedy, “Brick Novax’s Diary”, winner of Best Short Film at Sundance.

Sunday features “The Best of Australian Shorts” programme. That includes “Julian”, which won the Crystal Bear at Berlin Film Festival and tells the tale of a nine-year-old boy, Julian, who stands up for what he believes in.

Also showing is the comedy “Fish & Chips”, where Pauline Hanson cooks on “Chef of the Universe” against boy geniuses Barry Obama, Vlad Putin and Kim Yong-il, with a cameo by a young Kevin Rudd.

Flickerfest, at Dendy Cinemas, Civic, March 24-5. Bookings [15+] to www.dendy.com.au
