LOCAL Frank Madrid is yet again curating and producing an Australian music festival; yet this time, in New York.

For the first time in its 26-year history, “Summerstage”, will put up a festival of Australian indie music, fashion and art in New York’s Central Park.

Led by Madrid, his Canberra-based agency FAMA will work together with New York’s City Parks Foundation and draw together a variety of indie fusions from pop, folk and electro with “a sophistication and sensitivity that encapsulates Australian youth culture”.

“Our aim is to promote Australia through one of its best cultural products, its music, while developing a platform for new Australian bands keen to conquer the competitive US market,” Madrid said.

The “mini-festival” will be held on Saturday, August 18, and will feature the up-and-coming talents of Australia’s thriving music scene including triple j Unearthed winners Husky, Sheppard, High Highs, George Byrne, Maya Jupiter, DJ Ashley Feraude and Kid Zoom.

“Summerstage” has the support of the Australian International Cultural Council, art-fashion label MAMBO, The Australian Consulate in New York City and Qantas.
