Fresh Funk takes a shot at ‘fame’

TUGGERANONG Arts Centre’s “Fresh Funk” dance students are presenting “The Fame”, which follows a group of talented dancers, singers, musicians and actors, studying performing arts at a specialised school in New York.

Every semester more 300 dancers from Fresh Funk head to Erindale Theatre for three performances in what, TCA describes as “is invariably the hottest hip-hop ticket in town” – that’s hip hop dance, not rap.

It’s a full-length performance of two hours, including one interval, and shows a bunch of students following their dreams to achieve real the fame that comes only from talent, dedication, and hard work. But fame proves elusive, as they struggle through self-doubt, competition, distractions, temptations and self-discovery.

In a move reminiscent of “A Chorus Line”, each student strives for his or her moment in the spotlight.

Fresh Funk’s directors are also asking, is “fame” all we want it to be? Why do we find the idea of “fame” so appealing? Is “fame” worth it? Or is it more important just to love what you do?

The Fame” , Erindale Theatre, 8pm June 29 and 5pm and 8pm, June 30, bookings to 6293 1443.

Tickets: $26 | $20 conc | $80 family.
