From seeds grow great performances

GIRALANG Primary School will hold an end-of-term performance in its newly created playground  – Giralang Grove , a new, specially landscaped area with stages, logs stepping stones and special plantings – at 2pm, preceded by a community barbecue.

“All classes will perform in the performance called ‘6 Seeds’  because last year I was given six kurrajong seeds at the National Arboretum when Jon Stanhope planted the National Liberty Tree – a kurrajong – for Civil Liberties Australia on December 10, ” says principal Trish Keller.

“What else do you do with six seeds but get your staff’s creative juices going and come up with this great idea for a show, now at the end of Term 1 rather than the end of the year when everyone is so tired and out of energy!

“GPS is a Friend of the National Arboretum and our performances tomorrow will be stunning – all based around the tree/seed theme. The students have all learned Aboriginal dances with Duncan Smith and each class will perform their own item created together with teacher Mr Tim, specially employed to direct this show. We saw some of the performance at the Festival of the Forest at the National Arboretum on April 1.”
