“CITYNEWS” has been hearing increasingly positive reports about the work being done by curator Magda Keaney over at the Gallery of Australian Design.
Keaney is behind an exciting new curatorial program to start on January 12 with “YOUNG.HOT.CANBERRA.” That’s to be an exhibition featuring exceptional Canberra designers, all of whom are under 35, and it signals the GAD’s new approach and vision for talking about the importance of design to Australia.
In the meantime, there is tomorrow’s Great Gad Summer Party at the Gallery’s venue on the Lakeside, near Commonwealth Place. It’s the major fundraiser of the year and dress will be inspired by “The Great Gatsby,” so we hear.
It’s a one night only exhibition and sale made possible by the support of leading artists and designers from Australia as far afield as London. Guests will have the opportunity to buy a single edition postcard made by the contributors all who have produced an original work of art especially for the night.
Postcards will be sold at the same price of $250 + GST each.
There will also be design pieces all also for sale, with a chance to take home a lucky door prize of a signed and framed John Gollings photograph by buying a ticket.
Canberra designer Robert Foster is the guest speaker and music is by the Baron (Ben O’Loghlin) and his Hip Pocket Orchestra.
Proceeds will go toward keeping the GAD open on a Sunday and to continuing the program of exhibitions and events.
Great Gad Summer Party, at the Gallery of Australian Design, Commonwealth Place, 7-11pm tomorrow, Sat, Nov 3. Bookings to www.thegreatgadsummerparty.eventbrite.com
