Kristan’s ready for a fight

IT’S going to be fast, entertaining and could get a little ugly, says Kristan Armstrong of the Warrior FC Muay Thai fighting championships at the AIS arena this Sunday night.

The event will see professional fighters from Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Thailand battle it out with up to five rounds each.

Former Canberra girl Kristan, now based in the Northern Territory, will fight Canberran Bernie Connors.

Kristan has been fighting for three years and is ranked fifth in Australia.

“I worked with someone who knew someone who did Thai boxing, and I joined up,” she says.

“After about six months I started fighting and haven’t stopped since. It’s become quite popular in Australia, and I think Canberrans will enjoy seeing something a bit different.”

She describes Muay Thai as similar to kickboxing, but “with a few added extras.”

“You can trip your opponent and use elbows and knees, in kick boxing you can only kick and punch,” she says.

“It’s an awesome sport, it teaches discipline and how to treat your body.”
