Labor unveil $35m transport plan

ACT Labor has pledged 20 additional buses for peak routes, a centenary bus loop, and $500,000 for new bus shelters in a bid to improve Canberra’s public transport network.

The party today released their transport strategy, Transport for Canberra, promising to inject $37m over the next four years to upgrade ACTION’s services if re-elected.

Key commitments include 20 additional buses and services for the top ten busiest routes, extra rapid services, six fare free days for people to try out ACTION buses across the city, $500,000 for new bus shelters in growth areas and a free Centenary bus loop between the Parliamentary Triangle and Civic.

The party has also promised more direct services between Weston Creek and Civic and to establish the territory’s first large-scale private sector partnership to plan, finance and develop the first stage of a Light Rail Network for Canberra, the Capital Metro.

A seven day a week bus timetable will be included in the strategy, with weekend bus routes changed so buses travel the same routes as weekday services.
