Liberals promise credit-card parking

CREDIT card parking machines will be installed in all big ACT Government car parks if the Liberals win Government.

According to the Liberals, 20 new machines would initially cost $210,000.

Opposition Leader Zed Seselja said the machines will help the thousands of Canberrans who have to find up to $12 in change for parking every day.

“The days of trying to find enough change for parking could soon be over,” Mr Seselja said.

“Today’s announcement will make the journey to work more convenient than it is now, and would bring the ACT into line with the many other local councils across Australia that already have credit card parking machines.

“The existing coin operated machines would remain to give people choice, and the technology could be adapted to accept other payment methods such as MyWay cards.”

Transport spokesperson Alistair Coe said  the success of the initial roll out would help inform decisions about future expansion of the initiative.
