Man charged after police car chase

A 23-year-old Evatt man was charged last night after he led police on a chase through Canberra’s north.

About 10.35pm, police spotted a green Ford Falcon travelling faster than the posted 60km/h speed limit travelling along Ellenborough Street, Lyneham.

The driver led police on a chase through the suburbs of Kaleen, Giralang, Evatt and Melba. Police say the driver tried to escape police by mounting the curb and attempting to drive across the Melba ovals where the car collided with a drain, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.

The driver and the front passenger exited the car and fled the scene. Police took the two back seat passengers to the City Police Station where they were interviewed.

The driver eventually turn himself in and was charged with several traffic offences. He faces the ACT Magistrates Court later today.
