Man faces court over $350k drug bust

A 51-year-old man will face court today after police found about $350,000 worth of cocaine in a Deakin residence this week.

Police found more than a kilogram of the substance when they visited the Deakin home on Tuesday for domestic violence charges.

They say information they had received prompted them to obtain a Drugs of Dependence warrant.

A significant sum of cash was also found during the search.

Acting Crime Manager Detective Sergeant Shane Scott says “this is a good example of how a partnership between the community and its police generates useful intelligence, on which police can then act.”

“With the help of the public, we searched for and located evidence we strongly suspected was somewhere nearby,” he said.

The man will appear at the Magistrates Court today where police will oppose bail.
