Mortimore Prize comes to Canberra

John Amsler's "Great Ape"
CANBERRA Grammar School is about to host Australasia’s top exhibition of realistic art, the $15,000 Mortimore Prize.

This is the first time the show, which tours regional Australia, has been at the school and the organisers are hoping  it will become an annual event.

As the name suggests, the focus is on representational art and there are seven sections, including portraiture, landscape and drawing.

On show will be the awarded works, the Best in Show and the sectional winners, along with a selection of works from across the  genres.

Di King, the recipient of the Mortimore Prize and a first-time entrant, will be featured.

Among the many other artists on show will be Steve Harris, Ross Harvey, Graham Cox, Warwick Fuller, Kasey Sealy, Scott McDougal, Mike Sass and Patrick Carroll.

Past winners of the Mortimore Prize include Lucy Culliton, Ross Harvey, Barry McCann, Neil Taylor and Peter Smeeth.

The Mortimore Prize, at Canberra Grammar School, Monaro Crescent, Red Hill, 1pm-4pm, Mon/Friday 10am-4pm and weekends, until May 5-20. The official opening is at 3pm on Saturday, May 5, all welcome to attend.
