‘Mouseketears’ on parade

AN unusual exhibition by Lutz Presser is coming up at Manning Clark House on the weekend.

Presser’s “Mouseketears” series, he says, goes back to a photograph taken of him when he was four and his mother dressed him as Mickey Mouse for the German carnival, Fastnacht.

“‘Mouseketears’ continues my interest in imaging displacement, cultural misreading and visual misrepresentation,” he says.

The series canvasses the idea of Mickey Mouse depicted as an African American, shifting to that of a middle class White American.

“It is my intention to continue the series adding layers by computer manipulation, introducing cliché racial characteristics which were popularized as scientific fact in the West since the 1700s,” Presser adds.

Lutz Presser, at Manning Clark House, 11 Tasmania Circle, Forrest, 4pm,  November 18, bookings to  6295 1808 or info@manningclark.org.au

Cost: $10/$7.
