THE connection between music and medicine is almost as well-acknowledged as that between music and mathematics.
Here in Canberra, pianist Robert Schmidli is probably the best-illustration of this nexus, and this weekend he will be at the piano in Wesley Music Centre performing his annual fundraiser for L’Arche Genesaret.
Dr Schmidli is a medical specialist in endocrinology and diabetes and L’Arche Genesaret is an organisation that provides community living for people with an intellectual disability in Canberra.
On Sunday he will perform a demanding but exciting program comprising Haydn’s “Capriccio Hov XV11/4”, Schubert’s “Drei Klavierstucke, D 946”, Beethoven’s “Sonata no 11 Op 22 in B flat major” and Liszt’s relatively unknown “Scherzo and March”.
Since 2003, Dr Schmidli has performed many outstanding concerts at the Wesley Music Centre, most of them for community charities or for special projects of the Wesley Music Foundation, of which he is a fellow.
He invites the Canberra public to support this charity by enjoying an afternoon of exceptional musical works.
L’Arche Genesaret fundraising concert by Robert Schmidli, at Wesley Music Centre, 20 National Circuit, 3pm, Sunday, June 24 at 3pm. No bookings required. Tickets at the door, inquiries to 6282 9066.
