Theatre app for deaf patrons

CANBERRA Theatre Centre has launched the world’s first live theatre captioning application for iPhones and iPads.

GoTheatrical! was developed by the venue with The Captioning Studio and allows deaf and hearing impaired patrons to access live theatre captions on their 3G-enabled iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

The application will be available for the first time on the March 17 matinee performance of “Summer of the Seventeenth Doll”.

The application can be downloaded to from the App Store for $1.99, with all proceeds going back to The Captioning Studio.

Canberra Theatre Centre has provided live theatre captioning with The Captioning Studio for seven years. This year there will be nine captioned dramas in its 2012 season.
