ACTION’S festive-season Nightrider bus service will return next month with an improved service.
Like last year, it will operate on the Friday-Saturday nights until Christmas and there will be a New Year’s Eve service, says TAMS Minister Shane Rattenbury. Fare will remain at $5.
“After feedback from last year, we have decided to bring the departure times forward. The first bus will now depart from 12.30 am rather than 1 am. This will help attract a new market to the service such as late-night movie goers, he says.
“I am pleased to say that the Nightrider service is funded for the next three years, rather than receiving one-off funding year to year. We will evaluate the service after it concludes next year, including by looking at options for a potential expansion.”
The Nightrider bus will depart from Platform 7 at the City Bus Station. Eight Nightrider routes will take passengers home every 90 minutes between 12.30 am and 4.15 am with extra services to operate on New Year’s Eve.
The Nightrider routes will service suburbs in Belconnen, Gungahlin, inner-north, inner-south, Woden and Tuggeranong, dropping passengers at the bus stop nearest to their home. Each bus will have CCTV facilities and ACTION supervisors will be within the City Bus Station to assist with marshalling.
