CHILDREN of the 1980s may be more excited than today’s kids about the special guest performer at next week’s lighting of the Christmas Tree in the city.
Peter Combe, whose hits “Newspaper Mama, “Toffee Apple” and “Wash Your Face in Orange Juice” had gen Y grooving before The Wiggles were big, will play a free show in Civic Square on Friday, December 7.
From 7pm – 9pm, there will be Christmas festivities with Wild Voices and the Woden Valley Youth Choir and a special visit by Santa Claus himself.
Come nightfall, the crowd will witness Canberra’s 21-metre high Christmas tree being lit. Families can bring their own picnic or purchase food and drink on site. Best to bring along your own chair or picnic rug.
London Circuit will be closed from the intersections of Akuna Street to Petrie Plaza from 5.30pm to 9.30pm. ACTION buses will run as scheduled, with slight detours due to London Circuit road closures.
