POLICE are investigating an early morning  house fire in Ainslie, that caused about $200,000 damage.

Around 1.35am this morning police were called to find the brick house on Sherbrooke Street well alight.

Residences on either side of the property were evacuated while three fire crews extinguished the blaze.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus searched the house and found no one inside.

The cause will be investigated later today.
