Police: same offender, two crimes

THE offender who robbed a couple at the McDonald’s in Emu Bank last night is suspected by police to be the same man who robbed a teenage boy of his mobile phone at Belconnen Skate Park.

About 7.30pm, a man and woman were seated in the restaurant, when a man approached them with a knife and threatened them. The offender stole the man’s wallet and phone before running from the store.

The offender was seen getting into a white, early 2000s model Toyota Corolla hatchback with chrome hubcaps/wheels.

About 4.10pm on Monday, a 16-year-old boy was approached by a man – of similar description – at the front of Lake Ginninderra College as he walked to meet his mother. The man asked the boy the time, he replied and kept walking.

The man called out again, and when the boy turned around he was confronted with the man holding a knife. The man threatened the boy and demanded his mobile phone.

The offender is described as having an olive complexion, between 30 to 40 years of age, about 173cm to 178cm tall (5’8 – 5’10”) with short dark-coloured hair and a medium build. At the McDonald’s robbery, he was wearing a dark cap, white shirt with blue writing on the front, dark track pants and white shoes.

At the Belconnen Skate Park robbery, he was wearing dark blue jeans and a yellow T-shirt, and was unshaven.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident at the Emu Park McDonald’s or the Belconnen Skate Park, or is able to assist with the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
