Prime a safe bet for Cup viewers

ALMOST 48,000 Canberrans switched on to watch the Melbourne Cup this year, bringing PRIME to the top of the program ratings race.

In Melbourne a public holiday saw 32.5 per cent of the local population glued to their television for the big race, while in Sydney, 13.2 per cent tuned in – around the same as Canberra’s 13.0 per cent.

Meanwhile, just 10.5 per cent of Brisbanians, 9.6 per cent of Adelaidians and 7.4 per cent of Perth people watching the Cup at home.

WIN took overall ratings honours with its news and current affairs stable, and the ABC again showing up well with its long time favourites.

“Gardening Australia” even crept back into the top rankings, while “New Tricks” continues to do well in its new Friday time slot.

Canberra’s most fancied outsider for the week is  “Red Dwarf Series 10”, returning to the ABC on Wednesday nights. The comedy drew nearly 19,000 viewers and ranked Number 66 on the ratings list.
