A ceramic artist, musician and visual artists have been selected to work with children in three primary schools for the Artists-in-Schools program, ACT Minister for Arts Joy Burch has announced.

The program will see ceramic artist Joanne Searle working with Macgregor Primary School, musician Jim Sharrock working with Wanniassa Hills Primary School and visual artist Franki Sparke working with Mawson Primary School.

The program will see local artists working for extended periods with Canberra school children, engaging them in creative inquiry and exploration.

“This is the third year of the program and previous year’s projects have included puppetry and drama, sculpture, dance, glass-making and book making. I’m really looking forward to seeing the activities that unfold this year,” Ms Burch said.

“The creativity involved in these projects fosters lifelong interests in the arts and can help children with their overall school performance.”
