Here comes the sun as the rain retreats

THE Bureau of Meteorology says that the rain band affecting Canberra and the region has finally moved away, ending days of heavy downpours, fallen trees, house damage and closed roads.

The outlook for the remainder of today and tomorrow is for fine and dry weather.

There may be some shower activity on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, this though is not expected to cause any additional flooding issues across the ACT.

The ACT State Emergency Service  has received a total of 936 calls for help due to the wet weather since 3pm Tuesday.

Volunteers and staff from the ACTSES, ACT F&R, ACTRFS and TAMS continue to attend the call outs.

67 jobs remain outstanding.

Its volunteer crews, with the support of ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Rural Fire Service and TAMS,  have 67 outstanding to complete.

Meanwhile, Northbourne Avenue was closed for southbound traffic until this afternoon between Antill Street and Barry Drive due to the number of trees that have fallen along Northbourne Avenue since the storm began.

Residents who need flood assistance can call the ACTSES on 132500.
