Royal couple to visit Canberra

THE Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will visit Canberra next month as part of the Queen’s international Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The Royal couple will arrive in Australia on Monday November 5 following a visit to Papua New Guinea.

“I’m delighted the Prince and the Duchess will visit Canberra as part of their tour of Australia next month,” Chief Minister Katy Gallagher says.

“This will be the Duchess of Cornwall’s first visit to Australia. The Prince of Wales last visited Australia in 2005.”

While they are in Canberra the Royal Couple will participate in the renaming of Parkes Place in Canberra’s Parliamentary Zone to Queen Elizabeth Terrace, in honour of Her Majesty’s 60 year reign.

“Their Royal Highnesses will also visit the Australian War Memorial for a wreath-laying,” Gallagher says.

“These public events will be the best opportunities for residents of the ACT to catch a glimpse of the visiting Royals.”

During their hectic visit to Australia the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will also visit Melbourne, Sydney, Hobart, Adelaide and Longreach.

The Royals will depart Australia on Saturday November 10 to continue their Diamond Jubilee tour in New Zealand.
