Rubbish dumpers blitz by rangers

CITY rangers are targeting illegal rubbish dumping at charity bins with nine people caught this month.

Over the weekend, three people were issued with on-the-spot fines at charity bins in Gungahlin.

“While most people were again observed to be doing the right thing, three people were fined for illegal dumping,” licensing and compliance acting senior manager Peter Dinan said.

“Illegal dumping can damage or destroy items that have been correctly placed in the bins and it also places a burden on charity groups who have to spend a considerable amount of time and money to cart items away.”

Mr Dinan said that many potentially reusable larger items left outside charity bins can be taken to alternative outlets such as local Resource Management Centres, charity shops and second-hand dealers.

Witnesses of illegal dumping around charity bins are urged to call Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.
