Scared dogs fill the pound

A BIG spike in dog numbers at a Canberra pound since the weekend’s fireworks has the ACT Rescue and Foster concerned.

The Domestic Animal Services shelter in Mugga Lane, Symonston currently has 50 dogs with 23 coming into the pound since the weekend.

ACT Rescue and Foster liaison officer Beverly Margosis says the spike is hard to explain but could be related to the Saturday’s fireworks.

“We urge anyone whose dog is missing to make sure they check with DAS immediately,” Ms Margosis said.

“Our dog rescue task is a huge challenge and such uncharacteristic increases in dog numbers really concern us.”
