Seselja: How much will the carbon tax cost us?

THE ACT Opposition will today call on the Government to outline how much the Carbon Tax will cost Canberra residents.

“Canberrans absolutely deserve to know how much they’ll be slugged because of the Carbon Tax,” Opposition Leader Zed Seselja said.

“What we’ve already learnt not from the government, but from the ICRC, is that the Carbon Tax will add $244 each year to ‘average’ household’s electricity bills, with Opposition estimates showing families of five will face closer to $500.

“We’ve also learnt not from the government but through a Freedom of Information request that the tax will leave a $73 million black hole in the ACT?s budget, which could lead to an extra slug of around $140 to every household, every year.

“Based on this alone, Canberrans are facing a yearly carbon tax cost of living hit of at least $380. But the government still hasn’t fronted up and given Canberrans the full story.

“ACT Labor should now put their open government spin into practice and be upfront with Canberrans and confirm exactly how much Canberrans will pay for the Carbon Tax.”
