A new e-book that tells  the story of Australia’s geological evolution from a combined scientific and cultural perspective will be launched tonight at the ANU.

The book, “Shaping a Nation: A Geology of Australia,” is a joint publication between Geoscience Australia and the ANU E Press.

The book looks at Australia’s geological heritage, and outlines the issues this  presents in Australian society today.

Contributing Editor Professor Brian Kennett, from the Research School of Earth Sciences at the ANU said,  “The book shows the way in which geology has influenced the peoples of Australia and shaped our nation, through soils, water, minerals, energy resources and the unique life forms of the modern continent.”

He added that publishing it  as an e-book meant it could  be distributed to the biggest possible audience and be freely shared with an international community.
