Shortis and Simpson sing away the ‘Budget Blues’

WHEN budget time comes around in Canberra, you may be sure that local satirists Shortis and Simpson won’t be too far away.

This season is no exception and Teatro Vivaldi, is billing their newest show as “A cure for the Budget Blues”, assuming there are blues of course.

Of course, the pair, John Shortis and Moya Simpson, claim that they’re just “letting the politicians write the satire for them”, but they would say that wouldn’t they?

The plan is to let the budget and the budget reply sink in, and then provide us with a night of laughs.

Recent political highlights (and lowlights), in their view, include the Great Australia Day Shoe Incident, the Rudd-Will-Save-Us-All resignation speech from Washington, the Julia/Kevin-Has-My-Full-Support character assassinations, the Ugly Leadership Spill, the New Carr on the Block, the Queensland Election Massacre of Captain Bligh, the Goodbye Bob-Hello Christine story, not to mention the Speaker and an ex-Labor man called Craig.

Shortis and Simpson, at Teatro Vivaldi, ANU Campus, Saturday, May 12.  Three course dinner and show $70/$80/$90 (depending on seating), show only $40. Bookings to 6257 2718.
