Shortlist for film ‘pod’ initiative

SCREENACT has just announced the top ten feature film projects that have been selected for Phase 2 of Low Budget Feature Pod. 

At least one of the projects will be eligible for production funding from the ACT Screen Investment Fund.

Phase 1 of was attended by 42 local participants, who attended  a 7 day workshop run by script consultant Stephen Cleary. Industry experts, including distributor John L. Simpson, managing director, Titan View, local film guru Andrew Pike, Michael Wrenn, head of production for Arclight and Kylie De Fresne, ) producer for Goalpost (who produced “The Sapphires,”) gave one-on-one feedback.

This is the third major Pod that ScreenACT has organised over the past three years. “This is not just about development – it’s about at least one project going all the way through to production and distribution”, director of ScreenACT, Monica Penders, said . “The film budget levels will be in the region of $300,000 plus with the ACT Screen Investment Fund (Screen Fund) being one of the major equity investors”.

Pods are ScreenACT’s own development initiative, co-financed by Screen Australia as part of its “Talent Escalator” initiative.

The 10 films are:

“Ariadne’s Fate” by Geraldine Martin, Science Fiction,

“Beneath the Sunny Skies” by Susan Thwaites, Drama,

“Blue World Order” by Che Baker andDallasBland, Science Fiction,

“Exchange” by Declan Shrubb, Horror/Zombie,

“Flesh and Blood” by George Jenkins, Drama,

“Oil and Water” by Ian Hart,             Drama,

“Payday” by Kris Kerehona, Drama,

“The Farmer” byAndrew Einspruch & Billie Dean,   Comedy/drama.
