Skate in the City returns – bigger and greener!

SKATE in the City will be back in July – bigger and greener than ever before.

This will be the second year Garema Place will be converted into an open air skate rink; complete with daily sessions, ice shows, fashion parades, movie nights and an “improved” party lounge. There will also be “Cultural Sundays”, highlighting different cultures each week.

The rink will also be bigger at 400-square metres and powered by sponsor ActewAGL’s GreenChoice energy program. ActewAGL will also assist with the 12,000 litres of water critical needed to create the ice rink.

Canberra CBD Ltd CEO Stephen Gregory.
Canberra CBD Ltd CEO Stephen Gregory said he was overwhelmed by the popularity of last year’s event and thrilled with its ability to add further colour and energy into “our vibrant city centre”.

“Keeping general ticketing for the event the same as last year was an important factor in our planning,” he said.

“Children, five and under will continue to receive free entry when accompanied by a paying adult.

“Part of last year’s success was the increased number of people it brought into city cafes and restaurants. This not only provided some much needed sustenance for the skaters, but also provides a fantastic atmosphere in our city and supports many of our great local businesses.

“This year we’re urging local retailers to get into the winter spirit and use the event to complement their own winter activities.”

Mr Gregory said Canberra CBD Ltd were grateful the event has received from the ACT Government and ActewAGL.

Skate in the City, Friday, June 29 to Sunday, July 29. More information at inthecitycanberra.com.au
