Raining, pouring… snowing!

SNOW hit Canberra this morning, with temperatures plummeting from 9.6 to 2.5 degrees in 30 minutes.

Senior meterologist at the Bureau of Meteorology Sean Carson says it had been snowing in the Brindabellas for most of the morning, but  heavy showers in the city and Belconnen areas “dragged a lot of cold air to the atmosphere”, bringing on a period of snow for about 10 to 15 minutes.

He’s not ruling out more snow later today, but “it’s unlikely as there would need to be another heavy shower to bring it on.”

Mr Carson said the last time it snowed in all parts of Canberra was 12 years ago.
