“Spiritual community” in abstract art

ELLA Whateley is a PhD candidate in painting at the ANU School of  Art.

An exhibitor  in solo and group shows in England, New Zealand and Australia, she has been an art director for Vogue Magazines inSydney.

In her solo show, “Communicants,”  Whateley explores the idea of “spiritual community” through a series of abstract works on paper. “The drawings,” she says,  “give the viewer a shifting impression of space through the combination of projective reflective mediums and strong tonal variations.”

“Communicants,” Ella Whateley, at  August 2-12, Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Furneaux Street Manuka.
