Warmer weather on its way

ALTHOUGH snow swept into Canberra on Friday, weather experts report the capital should hit 19 degrees tomorrow – the warmest temperature in three months.

Senior Meteorologist at The Weather Channel Tom Saunders says temperatures in Eastern Australia have climbed to the highest levels since May.

However, the brief burst of heat will be interrupted by a cold-front which will drop temperatures back to normal by Friday.

“The front will also cause widespread rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across south-eastern Australia from Wednesday to Saturday,” Saunders said.

“Wild temperature fluctuations are common in southern Australia during late winter and spring.

“The variability is due to the temperature contrast between northern Australia which has already begun heating up by August and the Southern Ocean which does not start warming significantly until at least October.”
