Tai Chi an ‘ancient art’

THE ACT Branch of the Taoist Tai Chi Society of Australia has found a novel outlet for their skills with Tai Chi demonstrations tomorrow (Saturday, October 6) at the National Portrait Gallery.

The connection is, of course, that the current exhibition, “Go Figure! Contemporary Chinese Portraiture” includes perspectives on Chinese group activities including Tai Chi.

Drawn from one of the world’s most important collections of experimental Chinese art, the gallery says, the show is “a vibrant expression of Chinese culture and contemporary portraiture.”

At the invitation of the gallery, the Taoist Tai Chi practitioners will demonstrate the “ancient art” practised from 11th century China and which is still an important part of Chinese culture and lifestyle today.

Local Taoist Tai Chi practitioners, at National Portrait Gallery, King Edward Terrace, 2pm to 3pm Saturday, October 6. All welcome.
