Teens charged with servo armed robbery

TWO teenage boys were charged last night for an armed robbery at the Holt Caltex Service Station.

Police will allege the boys, both aged 17, entered the service station about 10pm armed with knives and threatening the cashier. The cashier opened the cash register and fled the store.

Police say a short time later, the cashier saw the two teenagers run from the service station, carrying the cash tray from the register. The cashier returned to the service station and contacted police.

About 10.10pm, Belconnen police found the two teenagers on Beaurepaire Crescent, Holt. Police chased down the teenagers and found the property from the service station on one of the teenagers.

Det-Sgt Richard Gough from ACT Policing Criminal Investigations said the information provided to police was critical in apprehending the two teenagers so quickly.

“The information provided to police in a timely manner ensured that attending officers had the best possible chance to apprehend the offenders,” he said.

“The cashier did the right thing by looking after his personal safety and removing himself from danger. There is no point in putting your life in danger over cash or a few packets of cigarettes.”

The two teenagers were charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and will face the ACT Childrens Court today.
