Thieves and vandals: bad night for Canberra cars

Police report that two underground car parks of the same apartment block on Canberra Avenue were the target of thieves who smashed the windows of 20 vehicles, apparently looking for loose change.

Police are asking anyone able to assist with the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

Meanwhile, police are also seeking witnesses to burglaries and motor-vehicle thefts in Bonython and Forrest this morning.

At about 1am,  a silver Mercedes C250, bearing NSW registration BQ89NZ, was stolen during a residential burglary in Bonython.

The vehicle was sighted and pursued by police shortly. The short pursuit was stopped due to the offender driving at high speed.

In Forrest, during a burglary between 12.45am and 6.30am,  a silver Audi TT Sedan, YHV92M, was stolen.

Police are uncertain if the two incidents are linked. Both vehicles are still outstanding and police urge people not to approach them.
