“SHIRLEY! / Shirley, Shirley bo Birley Bonana fanna fo Firley / Fee fy mo Mirley, Shirley!”
Quite a few “CityNews” readers will remember the words to the song “The Name Game”.
Now the younger dancers at QL2 Dance, aided by a few older Quantum Leapers, are staging a show about the use of names in everyday life, and they’re calling it “Name Game”.
They’ve been considering things such as secret names, baby names, given names, family names, name calling, turns names and real names – the list is endless.
It’s been devised by 38 young dancers (8–16) working with choreographers Caitlin Mackenzie, Gabe Comerford and Matt Cornell.
Caitlin Mackenzie is a former Quantum Leaper and now a professional dancer with MakeShift Dance Collective, while Cornell is writing his first book. Comerford has worked with Compagnié MADO in New Caledoniawho has been involved with “The Bloke Project” and “The Young Men in Leadership” conference for boys at risk, Toowoomba.
The guest choreographers join artistic director Ruth Osborne and assistant artistic director Adelina Larsson and the young dancers in exploring the power of names.
“Name Game”, at Theatre 3, 3 Repertory Lane, Acton, 5.30 & 7.30pm, Friday, October 19, and 4pm & 7pm, Saturday, October 20, bookings to 6257 1950 or https://www.patronbase.com/_CRS/Productions/QL12/Performances
