A NEW book has traced the history and achievements of Mount Stromlo Observatory. 

Mt Stromlo Observatory: From Bush Observatory to the Nobel Prize, offers readers an insight into the pivotal historic moments and achievements of the Canberra landmark and the people who have worked there over the past 90 years.

“Canberra is fortunate to be the home of one Australia’s most valuable scientific institutions, which has played a key role in some of the most significant astronomical discoveries,” says ACT Minister for the Arts Joy Burch, who launched the book today.

“The Mt Stromlo Observatory is one of the oldest establishments in Canberra and has grown and changed with the times, from its early days as the first Commonwealth Solar Observatory to a world-renowned astronomical institution. As a community we have witnessed these changes from the devastation and subsequent transformation of the site following the 2003 bushfires to the Observatory’s global scientific successes. Through this book you can discover and learn about these events as well as the people who have influenced them.”
