A look at ‘The Way We Wore’

AS part of  Queanbeyan’s 175th birthday celebration, Queanbeyan Museum is staging  an exhibition at The Q of bridal, bridesmaids and other gowns dating from the 1880s to the 2000s.

“The Way We Wore” will serve as  a reminder of the more intimate scale of the past juxtaposed with Queanbeyan’s cutting-edge Performing Arts Centre. qbn way were

Museum curator Gillian Kelly has used the Museum’s  collection and augmented it with support from the community, putting together an outstanding collection of gowns with accompanying historical photographs reflecting the community milestone of marriage.

The bridal gowns range in style from the lavish to the simple and the quirky, illustrating changes in fashion and taste for wedding apparel over 130 years of history in the Queanbeyan area.

The exhibition and its accompanying historical photographs, also ranging over 130 years, is intended as a trip through Queanbeyan’s history.

Kelly will be conducting a curator’s floor talk at 11am on Thursday April 18.

“The Way We Wore” at The Q Exhibition Space, until April 27 at rear of 253 Crawford Street, Queanbeyan.  Free entry. Official opening Friday,  April 12, from 5.30pm.
