Airport General Practice opens

A NEW General Practice at Canberra Airport’s Majura Park Medical Centre was officially opened today.

Chief Minister Katy Gallagher says the centre will also include a pathology centre, a physiotherapy clinic, a pharmacy and a dentist.

“This reflects a developing trend in health, where services are grouped together for patients so they can easily access them,” she says.

The Airport General Practice has seven consultation rooms and when it reaches full capacity will provide up to 40,000 consultations per year.

Ms Gallagher says the practice will provide healthcare to the 10,000 people who work at the airport and also to people living in Pialligo, and neighbouring suburbs.

Two of the doctors at the practice did their registrar training in Canberra and the practice has also been accredited by Coast City Country GP Training to take on GP registrars for training.

“This new practice helps to keep doctors here in Canberra by providing employment opportunities, which is of great benefit to the Canberra community,” says Ms Gallagher.

The hours of operation of the Majura Park Medical Centre will be Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 5:30 pm, Saturday 9:00 am – 11:30 am.  Home visits will be available for patients of the Practice who are unable to attend the practice premises.
