Cannabis seized in raid on Isabella home

OVER eight kilograms of cannabis plants were seized from an Isabella Plains property during a raid yesterday.

Police searched the property at around 4.30pm yesterday, finding three purpose-built rooms at the rear of the yard which all contained cannabis plants in different stages of maturity.

In total, police located and seized 18 cannabis plants which were being grown with the assistance of an elaborate hydroponic system.

A 40-year-old man will be summonsed to face the ACT Magistrates Court on drugs charges at a later date.

Detective Sergeant John Giles from ACT Policing Criminal Investigations says the seizure comes off the back of a number of successful warrants police have executed as part of its illicit drugs campaign.

“There are signs which people can look out for which could indicate someone may have a hydroponic system growing cannabis inside their house. Look out for houses that have blocked off windows and are extremely well-lit indoors at all hours. Also look out for ventilation fittings which are erected on the roof and there are usually hoses and pipes being used for water and ventilation purposes,” Detective Sergeant Giles says.

If you suspect someone is dealing or growing illicit drugs or witnessed suspicious behaviour in your neighbourhood, contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Information can be provided anonymously and rewards of up to $1,000 may apply.
