More than 1,000 ACT students will showcase the theme for the 29th Youth Dance Festival, to be presented in September by Ausdance ACT and sponsored by the Centenary of Canberra.

The festival is, unlike competitions like the Rock Eisteddfod, a non-competitive event where participants work as a team and communicate their ideas through creative activities. Very often the choreographers are the students themselves.

“This year’s Centenary of Canberra Youth Dance Festival is a wonderful opportunity for young people growing up in Canberra to showcase their creative interpretations of Canberra’s future through dance,” Ms Burch said.

The Festival, which has been running since 1985, has seen 30,000 young dancers strutting their stuff on the stage of The Canberra Theatre will this year involve the students in 56 routines, from 38 secondary schools and colleges across the ACT, but you’ll have to get in quickly for this most popular of Canberra’s youth arts events.

29th Youth Dance Festival, at the Canberra Theatre Centre,  September 18-20, bookings to 6275 2700 or canberratheatrecentre.com.au
