Faulty boiler blamed for Woden Plaza collapse

A FAULTY boiler which may have released carbon monoxide has been blamed for the collapse of two people at Woden Plaza yesterday.

The area near Bradley Street, outside the McDonalds entrance to the Plaza, was temporarily blocked around 1pm after the man and woman collapsed.

They were treated at the scene before being taken to Canberra Hospital.

ACT Ambulance Service later transported a further four people to hospital for observation.

An initial investigation by firefighters indicated a faulty boiler is suspected to have released carbon monoxide into the air conditioning system in the building opposite the plaza entrance.

ACT WorkCover will investigate.
