Free buses for seniors

SENIORS Card holders will be able to travel free on ACTION bus services next week as part of Seniors Week, which runs from Monday, March 18 to Sunday, March 24.

The free travel extends to seniors from the ACT and interstate during off-peak hours on the weekdays – 9am to 4.30pm and after 6pm – as well as all day on the weekend.

Older people just need to show their Seniors Card to the driver or alternatively, those who  have an ACTION Seniors MyWay card can use the system as normal and no fare will be deducted during those times.

Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Shane Rattenbury said a little more than half of ACTION buses were easy-access, with a ramp, wide front entrance and space to accommodate two wheelchairs or walkers.

“Bus routes featuring easy-access buses on weekdays include routes 71, 73/74, 75 and 76/77, which are off-peak services that provide access to town centres, hospitals, nursing homes and some local shopping centres,” Mr Rattenbury said.
