Gallagher sees ‘scope’ to cut water price

THE ACT Government may come out in support of cutting the price of water, according to comments made by Chief Minister Katy Gallagher in question time today.

“We believe there is scope for a reduction in the price of water,” Ms Gallagher said.

She was asked by Zed Seselja whether the Government supports a reduction in water and sewage prices, consistent with draft recommendations published in February by the Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission (ICRC).

The ICRC  is currently conducting an inquiry and will release its final report on June 12 this year, which will determine what ACTEW charges for the next five years.

“The Government has considered [supporting a price cut] as part of its submission and will be releasing that submission before the 15th of April,” Ms Gallagher said.
