STAFF from outgoing domestic garbage collector Cleanaway have taken industrial action that is threatening today’s recycling and garbage collections across the inner-north and inner-south of the city.
According to the Transport Workers Union, the garbage collectors are striking over a potential pay cut of up to $200 a week for some staff when the new operator takes over. The ACT Government has previously denied the change to SITA will lead to any loss of pay or conditions.
The potentially impacted suburbs are:
Garbage and recycling
Barton, Beard, Deakin, Duntroon, Forrest, Garran, Griffith, Harman, Hughes, Isaacs, Kingston,
Narrabundah, Oaks Estate, O’Malley, Phillip, Pialligo, Red Hill, Swinger Hill and Yarralumla
Acton, Ainslie, Braddon, Campbell, City, Dickson, Downer, Hackett, Lyneham, O’Connor, Reid,
Turner and Watson.
The Government says residents should leave their bins out until collected and that Cleanaway is seeking urgent resolution so that collections can resume.
There is no impact on commercial recycling and garbage collection.
