JORIAN Gardner has confirmed CityNews’ prediction of October 10 that he would be exiting his junior partnership with arts icon Domenic Mico, after only seven months together in the emerging Smith’s Alternative bar and venue in Civic.
In a self-penned press release, Gardner says he will sell his part of the business to Mico so he can concentrate on his role as director of February’s Fringe festival, overseeing a challenging budget of only $20,000.
“I have had a wonderful time setting up the new Smith’s this year and I hope it continues to prosper under the management of Dom,” Gardner says in the release.
“Smith’s Alternative has reinvented itself as one of the most vibrant, dynamic and unique cross-platform arts venues not only in Canberra, but in Australia. I’d like to think I had something to do with that.”
Mico refused to comment on the move this afternoon.
