Gospel to Broadway with American choir

morgan 2“CITYNEWS” has been hearing a lot of late about the  Morgan State University Choir, coming this weekend  to  Canberra.

The university choir, known for its interpretation of American Gospel music, is sending its top 20 vocalists on tour in Australia and will include performances with the Woden Valley Youth Choir, conducted by Alpha Gregory.

Their  repertoire of American-themed music with everything from Gospel to Broadway selections as well as some classical music.  The conductor will be Dr Eric Conway and the accompanist Chester Burke Jr.

Based in Baltimore, Maryland and praised for its  “agility and craftsmanship, the full Morgan State University Choir, which is over 130 voices strong, prides itself on a “thoughtful approach”  to music  and is particularly  noted for its emphasis on preserving the heritage of the African-American spiritual and its performance practices.

Morgan State University Choir, at Llewellyn Hall, 3pm Sunday, June 16, open to the general public, with entry by donation at the door.
