HIT PRODUCTIONS specialise in bringing heaps to mostly regional audiences, as they did last week with Amanda Muggleton in “The Book Club”.But this week they have really hit the spot by bringing former Queanbeyan local Mike Smith back to town to star in “The 39 Steps.”
A well known actor in local productions like Canberra Rep’s “The Sum of Us” in 2002, this will be Smith’s first full stage performance in his home town since graduating from NIDA.
Many of you will have seen the 1935 Hitchcock spy thriller movie, itself based on the novel by John Buchan.
These days the hilarious updated stage production of “The 39 Steps” is the longest running comedy in the West End.
Dashing Hitchcock-style hero Richard Hannay meets a mysterious woman, who reveals a plot to smuggle military secrets out of the country. That night, she is found murdered in his apartment. Now the race is on for the police and the international spies to get to Hannay before the man with the missing finger does.
The Q is billing this new all Australian production directed by Terence O’Connell as “a rip-roaring night out for all the family.”
“The 39 Steps” at the Q – Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre, October 8 – 12, bookings to 6285 6290 or visit www.theq.net.au
